Tips for a Drier Crawl Space
- Start with a vapor barrier. A sealed plastic liner over the ground stops moisture rising from the soil, so your dehumidifier doesn’t have to work as hard.
- Close off vents. In humid climates, open crawl space vents can let in more moist air than they let out.
- Aim for about 50%. Set the humidity target around 45% to 50% and let the unit cycle on and off.
- Check the drain line. Make sure the hose runs downhill (or to the pump outlet) and isn’t kinked.
- Clean the filter. A clean filter keeps air moving and protects the unit.
